Update from Camp

Just wanted to pop in and give y’all an update from Camp Nanowrimo. This is the first year I’ve ever participated in Camp Nano, and it’s been a lot of fun! I’ve been in a “cabin” with a bunch of authors from the Clean Indie Reads group, so it’s been fun to see how everyone else is doing on their goals and encourage each other a bit.

I realized that I always go a bit too ambitious with my goals. I started with a goal of 40,000 words, but then when I realized I was going to be out of town for the last week of July I lowered it to 20,000.

Ha.

Ha. Ha.

The best I’m going to be able to hope for is that I will hit 10,000 words tonight before we head out on vacation. I’m not bothered by this, though, because Turrim Archive Vol. 2 now has 9,000-10,000 words more than it did at the beginning of July! And that is cause for celebration.

So, while I won’t be “winning” Nanowrimo (again), I am content. Because the Turrim Archive wins with every word I type in it. I’ve got lots of ideas and I intend to keep working on this story through August. Who knows? Maybe I’ll get another 10,000 words written… and another, and another, and maybe by the end of the year I’ll have completed a first draft.

And then I can move on to book #3 (with breaks for polishing Minstrel’s Call, of course, once all my beta readers and line editor get back to me with their notes!)

Hope you are all having a fantastic summer! Don’t forget to check out the winning posts each day to see who is being presented with this year’s Silmarils! (We’ll break for the weekend and be back strong on Monday!)

And there’s also the LOTR 62nd Birthday Online Celebration next Friday! I believe I have the link up situated so that it will work splendidly, so swing by and share your posts so we can all celebrate together! I’ll be on the road most of the day on the 29th, but I am looking forward to reading everyone’s blogs and fb posts and tweets and instagram pictures and youtube videos – make sure you use #SilmAwards2016 so we can all find each other’s posts easily!

Yay! Loved hearing your update from Camp NaNo! :D I’m glad you’re having fun with it! And… yes, it does indeed win with every word, even if it’s “only” 10,000 words. ;) Honestly that’s the goal I’ve set every Camp except the first one I did. :P

I hope you’ll have a lovely vacation!

Looking forward to the wrapup of the Silmarillion Awards and LOTR party… methinks I have a couple of Middle-earth-ish posts to write ahead this weekend in preparation… ;)

I do realize the irony of “only” and “10,000 words” in the same sentence. I feel like I didn’t write a whole lot of stuff that was “brand new” though… more added to the scenes I already had. But it’s progress. Hopefully I can get this first draft cranked out before I have to do more editing on Minstrel’s Call (the upside to that being such a ginormous book is that it does take longer for people to get through it = more time for writing new books) :-D

Indeed! And on that note, do let me know whenever you have an idea of timelines/possibly needing some proofreading! I can’t PROMISE this far ahead obviously, in case I end up really busy whenever it is, but if I possibly could I’d love to be one of the closer-to-the-end proofreaders/reviewers for Minstrel’s Call! ^_^

I will! And I totally understand about not being able to schedule this far out :) I was half-kidding when I asked, but you are very good at catching mistakes that I’d rather not have show up in my final draft. I’d totally want to compensate you for your time.

Yay! Glad to hear you’ve gotten some progress made. I love that title, by the way, “Turrim Archive,” just rolls off the tongue.

Have a wonderful vacation and come back with full sails!

Thanks! I like the series title, too. My husband has had a lot of input into this series (so much so, that he really deserves co-author-credit of some kind, but he won’t let me put his name on the cover of the book!) he came up with the series title. We wanted something that wasn’t the typical: series, chronicles, saga, trilogy (esp since 5 books is not a trilogy, LOL) etc. Kind of like how your “Chronotrace Sequence” is more unique and interesting sounding.

Good for you, doing Camp Nano! I’ve yet to even try a Nano of any kind for myself. I just can’t decide if it would motivate me to write faster or if the “pressure” would make me procrastinate even more than I do. *le sigh* Guess I won’t know until I try, but if/when I do it, my word goal will probably be set pretty low, and it will have to be for a story I’ve got at least mostly outlined already, or I’ll never get anything done.

I like the title “Turrim Archive” too. Very nice. :)

Oooooh, there’s a LOTR 62nd Birthday Online Celebration next Friday? You know I’ve got to check that out!

Thanks! Yeah, the pressure is a bit of a hindrance to me, actually. Though I think I did get more written this month than I would have without it.

Yep! Since the first part of LOTR was initially published on July 29, 1954 and we are finishing up the Silmarillion Awards on July 28th, we thought we’d try to create an impromptu “Let’s celebrate LOTR’s birthday all over the internet this year!” hopefully the link up will work correctly and we can all go see everyone’s posts (or tweets/fb/instagrams/whatever) nothing super organized or structured, just for fun! I’ll be posting something that day, and I think most of the other presenters will be doing something on their blogs to help with the celebration.

Wish we could all get together in person for the party…. always nice to meet fellow LOTR fans! But online is the next best thing!

Yay for Camp Nano! :D Glad you’re happy with what you’ve written.
I can’t wait to read some snippets of Turrim Archives! (If you’re planning on giving any, of course… :) )
Hope you have a great vacation! <3 Where are you going?

Hopefully I will be able to put up some snippets when I get back from vacation. I’m really enjoying diving back into this story!

We’re heading over to MI for a family-reunion of sorts. :) Looking forward to seeing some cousins and family I haven’t seen in a long time.

Woo! 10,000 words is great! I last-minute decided to sign up for the final ten days of camp and haven’t been doing well at all with my meager goal. I need to stop being distracted and sit down and write!
Have a good time on vacation!

Hey I think 10,000 words is awesome! Well done, Jenelle, your story is closer to being finished!
I’ve yet to participate in Camp, but maybe I should give it a try.
