LEILA

Today's meet the character Monday post is going to talk about Leila (pronounced: lee-EYE-luh)

Leila is the third oldest daughter of Scelwhyn, the last great wizard of Tellurae Aquaous. She does not play a very large role in King's Warrior, but is an important secondary character nonetheless - particularly when it comes to her relationship with Kiernan Kane... but I can't go into that without giving away spoilers.

Although she is not the youngest of the four sisters, Leila seems to be the one who is most mischievous and at first glance the least mature. She is shy by nature, and upon reaching maturity, chooses to live in an area that most humans find to be a quite hostile environment: The Harshlands. She loves animals, and always has a few cats around her. Leila is not a crazy cat lady, though, animals are simply drawn to her - and cats are wiser than they appear - though less loyal than dogs. Her magical ability often manifests itself in her natural way with animals, and her ability to communicate with them.

However, despite these seemingly anti-social behaviors, Leila is a loyal friend, a caring person, and a powerful wizardess. She doesn't dislike the company of other humans, she simply prefers to live away from all the noise and clamor of the city. The Harshlands are a perfect environment for her because they are a place imbued with the leftover magic of the myth-folk that once claimed those lands as home.

As the story progresses through the four books, Leila remains an important character. She also grows up rather a lot throughout the story.

As for looks - she could easily be played by Keira Knightley or Stana Katic - both look very much the way I picture Leila.
