Smoke and Mirrors
Tomorrow is Veteran's Day.Tomorrow, we honor the Defenders who have fought on our behalf.Tomorrow, we take a moment to say "Thank You" to all who have done what they can to protect those of us who stay home. But today, in a very fitting and related way, my favorite singer/songwriter is releasing her first single! The name of the song is "Smoke and Mirrors" and is a tribute to some of our defenders. If you haven't yet heard this artist, you are missing out! I encourage you to head on over to her WEBSITE and poke around, she has some neat videos on her site where you can listen to her music and even get a sneak peek inside the recording studio where all the magic happens.I've had the privilege of being one of the few to hear this song pre-release, and it is just beautiful. It has a bit of a darker hue to the music, underscored by the gorgeous cello that Brittany Jean decided to add to the mix for this song. I love this song. Though the sound is a little different from many of her others, it is still very characteristic of the beauty of sound and the care for lyrics that Brittany pours into everything she writes and records. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Brittany gave me permission to share the lyrics with you:
Smoke and Mirrors
by Brittany Jean
On a plane around the worldTo a place that isn’t homeWrack and ruin place he’d heardUnlike any he had knownYoung September went all wrongIt began 9:42Thirteen hours until the dawnWhen the gates were broken into
I saw fire rain downOn the other side of townThis is our war nowThis is battlegroundHeard the leader man sayStand down, hold, and stayThey didn’t listen thoughOur brothers’ only hope
Smoke and mirrorsI see you through the smoke and mirrors
Two were lost in the firestormTwo fell in the fightThere wasn’t time to hope or mourn yetAs they fought to hold the lineFor each other and for goodFor the lives of those belowFacing odds they understoodSix watchmen on the night road
I saw fire rain downOn the other side of townThis is our war nowThis is battlegroundHeard the leader man sayStand down, hold, and stayThey didn’t listen thoughOur brothers’ only hope
Smoke and mirrorsI see you through the smoke and mirrors
They dropped him from the wallBut I’ll never let him fall
Long live the braveLong live the braveOn both sides of the grave
I saw fire rain downOn the other side of townThis is our war nowThis is battlegroundHeard the leader man sayStand down, hold, and stayDidn’t listen thoughOur brothers’ only hope
Smoke and mirrorsI see you through the smoke and mirrorsSmoke and mirrorsI see you through the smoke and mirrorsI see you through the smoke and mirrors
Smoke and mirrors
