Traitor: Storyworld - A Visual Post
One of my favorite Realmie Authors is releasing a new book!
I read Common by Laurie Lucking a few years ago when it was the Fellowship of Fantasy’s monthly club read. If you remember, that story absolutely tore my heart out and I loved it to pieces. You can read my review about it HERE. Ever since then, I have been anxiously awaiting this sequel.
And now it’s finally here! Traitor released yesterday, and I cannot WAIT to read it!
Today, I am thrilled to be taking part in the blog tour celebration, and Laurie has graciously agreed to share a sneak peak into the world of this series with us!
Get ready for some gorgeous visuals!
Thank you so much for the opportunity to share about the storyworld of Traitor today! If you’ve read the first book in my Tales of the Mystics series, you know Common takes place in a medieval-esque fairy tale world of castles, carriages, formal banquets, elegant gowns, and strong societal distinctions. In Traitor, I had fun taking a few of my characters from that setting and sending them across the sea to a foreign country filled with vibrant colors and people! Here are a few of the sights Princess Penelope encounters in her new home:
Palace
The Delunian palace is called Palati del Chrysos—a tall, ornate structure built near the sea. The gilded white palace feels nothing like home, but Penelope can’t deny it presents a stunning picture.
Gardens
Unlike the highly-organized, tailored gardens of her home in Trellich, the gardens in Delunia are allowed to flourish more like a field of wildflowers. Princess Penelope and her new fiancé, Prince Vander, spend some of their closest moments in the gardens of Palati del Chrysos, and she eventually comes to appreciate the wild beauty and large, vivid blossoms produced by the warmer climate.
Carriage
The mode of transportation hasn’t changed from Trellich to Delunia, but perhaps the speed has… :) Penelope finds her carriage rides in her new home a bit too bumpy and hurried for her taste, but Vander much prefers an exciting ride.
Fountain
Fountains in the center of Ambrus, the city surrounding the palace, provide a place for people to gather and draw water. Unfortunately for Penelope, such crowds enjoy cheering for shows of affection between young couples, including their prince and his new fiancée—despite the fact that Penelope has no intention of developing romantic feelings for her husband-to-be.
Marketplace
The noise and commotion of Ambrus's busy marketplace initially repels Penelope, who misses the quiet formality of home. But as one of her closest new friends happens to live adjacent to it, she eventually becomes accustomed to the activity and looks forward to her walks into the city.
Art
Penelope’s first impression of Delunia as a noisy, gaudy place begins to soften as she notices the beautiful artwork in her surroundings. Once the colors and exuberance no longer overwhelm her, she comes to appreciate the way the Delunians use nearly every surface to express their affectionate, enthusiastic approach to life. Over time, she comes to care deeply about the new people she will one day rule as empress—assuming she’s able to make this engagement work!
