Cliff Jumping

A few weeks ago, I went out to Washington state with my youngest to visit my family. Fully half of my family is out there, living in the shadow of the beautiful Cascade Mountains. I was also out there to help get some video footage for Stormcave. We are hoping to be able to present that to you in the near future. The following video has nothing to do with that.My brother, inspired by the Scott Fisher's example of adventurous spirit, has started something called "Bruce Trek." In order to understand the name, you would have to read "Mountain Madness" by Robert Birkby - a book I highly recommend. However, as not to leave you all in the dark, the gist of it is that there's a Monty Python sketch where everyone is named "Bruce" that Scott and his friends found entertaining, so they started calling each other "Bruce" for fun. Eventually, the nickname morphed into a way of identifying people who possessed a true spirit of bravery, courage, and adventure. While I was in Washington, Grant showed me the hats he had gotten made for the company. I asked how I could get one."You just ask," he grinned. "Though eventually the idea will be that you can only get a hat if you have done something 'Bruce'-worthy and have a video of it up on our site."Well, I didn't want to just be GIVEN one of these hats. I wanted to EARN one!So, I jumped off a cliff.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKmUK0a6nOc&feature=em-upload_ownerKeep in mind, the cliffs are quite high above the water, but that wasn't really the issue on that sunny day, May 23, 2015. The real issue was that the water was extremely, mind-numbingly cold! I looked it up and discovered the water temperature was somewhere between 50-55 degrees Farenheit! And to be fair and in the spirit of honesty, this is something I've been wanting to do since I first heard about it several years ago when my bro started working out there. It was actually my idea... so I made my own challenge. Throwing myself off a cliff into freezing cold water? Yes, please! (And in spite of my dreadful fear of heights, for some reason, I still enjoy being up high and long drops, and I dream of going sky-diving some day... or at the very least, parasailing)Photo on 5-28-15 at 5.42 PMI did get my hat!   (I have been asked to share a better or bigger picture so you can see the hat better, and I will... but I need someone to hold the camera for me, as this picture was taken with my macbook and thus the picture is mirrored and the logo (if you could see it clearly) is flipped backwards! Ha!)
