February is Fantasy Month 2021
Here we are again. January has ended, and today, February begins. And with it returns our month long “February is Fantasy Month” celebration. (Now with a free gerbil in every box*)
Way back in 2016, I decided that the month of February needed something to spruce it up. And thus, because of the powers of alliteration, Fantasy Month was born.
February has become my month to celebrate all things fantasy, in an attempt to dispel the gray and gloom that is often attributed to February.
This year, there will be some slight differences, however
The most notable difference is this: Usually, I post 5-6 days a week during Fantasy Month. This year, I know I cannot manage that, and so I’m not going to try. (And all the people who spend all their time reading blog posts gnashed their teeth, while those who have struggled to keep up with all the things breathed a collective sigh of relief). I don’t know exactly how often I’ll be posting, but it will be anywhere from 1 - 3 times a week.
If you are the sort who has time for reading blog posts every day, I salute you. I would also like to draw your attention to the upper left-hand corner of my blog, where you will see the word “BLOG.” If you hover over this or click on it, you should see a drop-down with some handy categories. If you click on “Fantasy Month” from that drop-down, you can read the archived posts from the past 5 years of February is Fantasy Month posts.
Secondly, I do not have 30 days of prompts for you this year.
However, I do have 7 prompts. Use them in blog posts, or on instagram, or wherever you choose to do this sort of thing. These prompts are NOT connected to any specific date, so you can post them anytime this month to get in on the fun. Just remember to use the #FantasyMonth tag if you want me to see them. (Or tag me in your post, that works, too).
This year, the theme is “Fandoms”
I thought that would keep it kind of simple and laid-back. Also, as you might have noticed in the Instagram challenge, I’m allowing for a wide, blurry line when it comes to the word “fantasy” this month. I’m not feeling super strict this year about terms and definitions. Superheroes, sci-fi, etc if it’s a fandom you love and it falls into speculative fiction AT ALL, this is the month to wax eloquent about it!
There will be a “Tag” — which I will be stealing from my blogging buddy Madeline J Rose, mostly because she already created a tag about fandoms, and I’m just not feeling up to recreating the wheel here. Also, her tag is super fun, and someone (I don’t remember who) tagged me to do it a while back and I never did. So… two birds, so to speak!

*the free gerbils are imaginary gerbils. (Which means they can look like and do anything your imagination can muster).
