Happy Independence Day!
The Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays.
Today we celebrate our freedom from oppression. From tyranny. From other forms of government that seek to control and dictate what we can be and think and say and do.
Today we celebrate our freedom from fear.
Today, we celebrate OUR INDEPENDENCE DAY!
Wake Up America: Music and lyrics by Brittany Jean
Grandpa served in the Second World War
Brought freedom then was wounded in that war
Returning home he was proud
To defend his country's sacred ground
A land where even broken men can dream
No handouts, no programs, just a land where men can dream
Free to worship, free to love, free to be
Speak his mind, build his plans--'cause he's free
Is this the country we're livin' in today
Our country's valor, they're throwin' it away
Wake up, Americans
Can't you see the fire
Love of honor, love of purpose, love inspired
Lexington to Gettysburg, Pearl Harbor to the Towers
A people to be proud of--a greatness that is ours
As we push God away do we find that we're not free
Wake up, America
Americans, you and me
Tearing at our fabric, at our core, our best beliefs
Our heritage on fire, a future based on grief
And all we've ever--ever hoped to be
My race? I'm an American, just like you--just like me
Is this the country we're livin' in today
Our country's promise, they're throwin' it away
Wake up, Americans
Can't you feel the fire
Love of honor, love of purpose, love inspired
Declaration, Constitution, Four Score, I have a Dream
Don't these bind our futures, don't we share these dreams
One nation under God, is this a motto or a pledge
Wake up, America
Americans, you and me
We never said it was for everyone
Ask not, One small step, Shining city on a hill
Honor then, Honor now, Honor always, Honor Still
Under one God we’ve been united
Our shared vision reignited
Wake up, America
Americans, you and me
We never said it was for everyone
It’s for Americans, you and me
