King's Warrior Read-Along: Chapter 16

Whew, it’s good to be back. Forgive me if anything I say today doesn’t make a lot of sense. Our two-year old daughter was having breathing troubles last night and we had to race her to the emergency room, where she was diagnosed with croup, treated, and then kept for observation until 3am. Add the lack of sleep to my already sore throat and I am definitely not firing on all cylinders today.

Happily, it’s another short and sweet chapter - and, honestly, not much happens in this chapter. There’s the necessary reunion, during which everyone who needs to be in the know is informed of what has happened to everyone else in the previous chapters.

The notable happenings of chapter 16 would be as follows:

  1. Kiernan Kane officially joins the company
  2. Kiernan Kane annoys Brant - we’re not sure what it is about Kiernan that annoys Brant, perhaps Brant himself doesn’t know, but whatever the reason (“his heart or his shoes”) his knee jerk reaction to Kiernan volunteering to come along is strongly negative.
  3. We learn two very interesting things about the Dark Warriors: 1) Brant and Seamas bear a resemblance to one another, 2) upon hearing that his aethalon encountered someone that looks a lot like him, Seamas is pleased and informs Tobias that “they have found him.” Which lends credence to Brant’s suspicion that the attack on Peak’s Shadow and Aom-igh in general was/is directed at him.

Fun quotes from today’s chapter:

“As safe as a wandering bard ever is.”

“Only you would claim to be freezing in the desert during the end of Warm-Term.”

“Admit it, you would be disappointed if I was ever less impossible than ever.”

“The minstrel scratched his head and seemed to be doing his best to look puzzled.”

“Besides, you are going to let Leila travel with you, and I am much less trouble than she is.”

I don’t have any Q&A for today. I’m trying to keep up with these, but if you’ve asked a question and I haven’t answered it, please feel free to ask it again! I might have missed it.

Discussion Questions:

Just one today. If you were tasked with casting this book for a movie: who could you see playing the various characters in King’s Warrior?

If you want to see my picks from a while back, I created THIS POST in which I talked about who I could possibly see playing the characters in King’s Warrior. I may have to redo this, because I’ve changed my mind on a few of them (specifically, Oraeyn, Yole, and probably Leila... I love Stana Katic, but I don’t think she’s really “Leila” enough).

All righty, I'm off to finish editing my Beauty and the Beast submission and hopefully send it in!
