I cannot even express to you today how excited I am. Today is the release day for Brittany Jean's new album, Leavin' Home! Brittany Jean will be doing a short live event on YouTube this evening at 5:30pm PST - so keep an eye on her Facebook Page for more information about that.Because I am one of the privileged few, I have already gotten to hear the new songs on this CD and I just love them all so very much. I haven't seen the finalized order for the songs yet, but I'm going to give you a sneak peek at a few of my favorites on this album.Little Bit of Someday - this song has soared to the very top of my "most favorite songs of all time" list. It is beautiful and the lyrics really hit me where I live. A song about dreaming for the future, but appreciating the moment one is in... and done with a lilting, peaceful melody... it just strikes a pleasant chord in my heart.Adventure - an upbeat addition to Brittany Jean's repertoire, this song just makes you want to set off into the wild blue yonder and see what you can discover! Such a fun song!Meet Me in the Wildwood - this song reminds me fondly of songs like Gordon Lightfoot's Pony Man. If songs were stories, this one would be a beautifully illustrated children's book.Turn Right - Much like The Ballad of Wall from her first album, this is the song that gives me the biggest smile. I can just imagine the little town these lyrics were written about and it makes me want to visit.Letter in the Attic - this song makes me cry every time I listen to it. It's the "title track" if you will, since it has the "Leavin' Home" line in it. It is the story of my sister and parents moving away from the house our family grew up in and across the country, and the letter that my brother wrote and left in the attic for the new owners. It is especially dear to my heart as we got to listen to the song as we made the drive to Wisconsin this past Fall... after leaving a letter of our own in the attic of our house for whoever the new owners might be.All of the songs on this album are simply fantastic, picking a handful to talk about was extremely difficult!

Leavin' Home is my second album comprised of ten original songs (including hit single "Wildfire") and two cover songs (one from the legendary Gordon Lightfoot and a classic from Ian Tyson--both being all-time favorites of mine). From songs about small-town days to songs about trying to find wild horses, the feel of this album is a little different than Whispered Stories. For most of these songs, I asked the musicians for an acoustic setup, bringing a new kind of life to our sound. I hope you love the difference as much as I do! Featuring the guitar, the fiddle, and the dobro, it was a lot of fun singing in the studio with my very own Union Station.
There's a lot of love and time that went into the creation of this record, and I hope you love it. I hope it encourages you--lifts your spirit, and I hope you find new favorites on this album.
