LIBRARY OF CONGRESS

Two weekends ago I got to experience my very first visit to Washington, D.C. Nope, I'd never been there before. Which isn't so crazy when you grow up in the Mid-West. The people here on the East Coast all looked at me like I had been hiding in a cave my entire life when I told them I'd never been to our nation's capitol before. Um... it's not like it's a 3-4 hour jaunt from Chicago.Anyway.One of the neatest things I got to see was the Library of Congress. I didn't realize all of these things were literally just down the block from each other. I sort of had the idea that the memorials and monuments and congress buildings were all spread out a bit more. We did go inside the Library, but didn't stay for very long as we had 1 day to see everything and it was 65 degrees out, sunny, breezy, and nobody wanted to spend the day indoors.Next time, though, I'm going to get one of the passes that the nice security guard lady told us about so I can actually go into one of the Reading Rooms. That would be cool.IMG_5225

The architecture is breathtaking. I've been to England, and this is definitely up there.IMG_5226 Cool carvings, and the doors (which you can't see in the picture) are these massive, wooden (I'm guessing oak), monstrosities. They could definitely withstand a siege. (Sorry, fantasy brain... anything this pretty becomes a castle in my mind)

I love the plates with the inscriptions on them, quotes from various places."Reading maketh a full man, conference a ready man, and writing an exact man."

"The chief glory of every people arises from its authors."

"Nature is the art of God."

My handsome husband.

The amount of marble in that building is stunning.

Anyway, so that's what I got to do last weekend. :) I also nearly went lame walking all over the place (we walked from 10:30am till about 3:30pm, and only made it halfway down the Mall), and Sunday morning through Monday night I could barely walk... still not sure why, either a really impressive knot, or a pulled muscle or something. Whatever it was, resting seems to have made it go away.

How was your weekend?
