Most Epic Heroine Nominations: 2022

Nominations Are Now Closed!

Oh my goodness, y’all! 150 Epic Heroines made the list this year!!! I’m going to be busily tallying up the votes now, and will be back on Monday with the link to the voting form where you will whittle down the list to the Final Winners!

Until then, HAPPY WEEKEND!

A gong rings. A woman’s voice rises over the rolling green hills, a song pouring from her lips. A beautiful song. Strains of melody gather beneath the shadows of the hills and soar into the brilliant blue of the sky. The horses of the Rohirrim raise their heads, their nostrils flaring with expectation. Soon, they will ride!

The 2022 Silmaril Awards have begun!

And we’re back! For the seventh year running, striding into September and all things Tolkien, here to honor our favorite fantasy characters and the father of modern fantasy all in one fell swoop.

Eowyn and I are so thrilled to be hosting the Most Epic Heroine category this year!

The Most Epic Heroine award should go to a character who epitomizes what it means to be a heroic woman in a fantasy realm. She doesn’t necessarily have to go around “un-aliving” people, either. A heroine can be a woman who keeps her family together against all odds. She can be the soul of compassion. She can have a courageous heart, even if she doesn’t possess the skills to save anyone (or herself). She can be a shield maiden, a warrior, a wife, a mother, and so much more.

Remember, these Silmarils are LIFETIME awards, so characters who have won in the past are no longer eligible for nomination.

Previous Winners

Lucy Pevensie from The Chronicles of Narnia
Aravis from The Chronicles of Narnia
Cinder from The Lunar Chronicles
Hermione from the Harry Potter Series
Pet from The City Between Series

NOMINATIONS ARE NOW OPEN!

For those of you who are new around here, let me just go through those pesky rules:

  1. Nominate favorite Epic Heroine characters by leaving a comment on THIS post. (To nominate characters in other awards, please go to each nomination post - links below, do not simply nominate characters for all the awards in the comment section of a single post, that makes it impossible for us to tally up the votes and will mean that your votes don’t get counted, and nobody wants that).

  2. Tolkien characters are the absolute gold standard for these awards, and as the honored hosts of the Silmaril Awards, they are ineligible for nomination.

  3. The awards are Lifetime awards, and therefore winners from previous years (listed above) are also ineligible for nomination.

  4. Fantasy characters only. If you are unsure of whether or not a character is from the fantasy genre, go ahead and nominate… we presenters have deep discussions about where the lines in this genre are every year and it’s one of my favorite conversations every year.

  5. If you are an author, you may not nominate your own character. However, you are more than welcome to tell your fans to come nominate your characters!

  6. Seconding. If you see someone has already nominated a character you love, feel free to “second” that character. The 5 characters in EACH category with the most seconds will advance to the voting round next week. You may “second” as many characters as you like.

  7. You may not nominate and second the same character (you can’t vote twice for any one character… sorry).

  8. Characters have to be from fantasy fiction books. If the book came first, the character is eligible. If the movie or tv show came first… sorry… there are other awards for tv/film, and this isn’t one of them! grin

  9. Have fun!
