Steal the Morrow Teaser

The Cover Reveal Is Just Two Days Away!

So I thought I’d give you a few little teasers to help whet your appetite a bit.

This book was such a joy to write. When Allison Tebo first approached me with the idea of joining the collaboration, I thought it sounded so fun! But also overwhelming. I was in the middle of trying to get the Turrim Archive polished up and off the ground… did I really have time to write a whole new book?

But the idea of Oliver Twist set in the world of Turrim just grabbed my heart and refused to let go.

And yes, I do know how extremely ironic it is that I, of all people, would choose to write a retelling of a Charles Dickens novel… but let me assure you of three things before you get too concerned:

  1. I have actually always loved the story of Oliver Twist

  2. Oliver! is one of my all-time favorite musicals and I love the other movies based on this book, as well.

  3. No, I did not write my retelling based on the movie… I actually read the book before I started writing.

Don’t ask me how I liked the book.

I didn’t love it.

But in a way, that made writing the retelling more enjoyable. Because I got to change the things I didn’t like.

I’ll talk more about the tropes and themes and story and characters later. But I think you’ll still be able to see the glimmers of the story that Dickens originally wrote hiding inside my retelling. And yet, you’ll also be getting something brand new and very different and only loosely based on that story. It’s a balancing act, writing a retelling, and I tend to err a little bit more on the side of “loosely based on” than “strict retelling.” But I hope that when you read Steal the Morrow you will find a delightful adventure full of hope that has been crafted with love and care: both for the source material, and for you, dear Reader.

Don’t forget to swing by in a couple of days to see the shiny, gorgeous cover!

And let me know if you have any questions about this book! I’ve been keeping secrets about this project for so long I don’t even know what to talk about! If you have any questions about the story, the characters, the changes I made, the setting, what it’s like working with a team of other authors for a multi-author collaboration, or anything else, put it in the comments and I’ll answer!
