CINDERELLA

Thought I'd update you on my latest project. I'm working on a short story re-telling of Cinderella for THIS CONTEST. I had happened across it back in August, but had sort of dismissed it because... well... let's face it.

Because of this

And quotes like these:

"Nobody will be looking at your feet."

"I'm going to tear your hair out!"

"Go... catch a chicken...."

"She's mute.""She spoke quite forcefully.""It... comes and goes."

"Yes! I shall go down in history as the man who opened a door!"

"You cannot leave everything to fate, boy. She's got a lot to do. Sometimes you must give her a hand."

"Then let's say God puts two people on Earth and they are lucky enough to find one another. But one of them gets hit by lightning. Well then what? Is that it? Or, perchance, you meet someone new and marry all over again. Is that the lady you're supposed to be with or was it the first? And if so, when the two of them were walking side by side were they both the one for you and you just happened to meet the first one first or, was the second one supposed to be first? And is everything just chance or are some things meant to be?"

I'm not a huge Drew Barrymore fan... but I have to admit this role is the exception. This is probably my favorite version of the Cinderella story... and I just sort of felt like... like it couldn't be topped. There are certain things that I just don't feel can be improved upon (The Princess Bride, The Original Star Wars trilogy, The Sound of Music...) ahem. And I wouldn't want to be the one who tried to do it.

Besides... I've never felt as though I was very good at short stories.

However, the idea stuck with me. And then someone gave me a little nudge... and then inspiration struck. I probably won't be amongst the winners... but I'm at least going to try.

So, that is what I'm currently working on and will probably keep me occupied through most of October what with writing, editing, and polishing.

I've also completed another piece of flash fiction, and submitted it to dailysciencefiction.com. If they don't accept it, I'll post it here for you to enjoy. If they do... I'll post the link :) (and do lots of happy-dancing... but I'll not post that, don't worry). :)

November and Nanowrimo will be when I buckle down and get started on the next novel in the series I'm writing. So, that's my plan for now.
