DYLANNA

Today's Meet the Character Monday post is about Dylanna.

Although she shows up in King's Warrior under a different name and face (which I'm not going to give away here) Dylanna is a powerful wizardess.

It is very hard to talk about Dylanna without giving too much away. Which means that this is going to be a much shorter post than usual.

So: who is Dylanna? She is one of the last of her kind - a wizardess (female wizard). She is the second-daughter of Scelwhyn, the world's very last wizard. Dylanna has three sisters: Calyssia (who is older), and Leila and Zara. They are half-wizard, half-mer-folk, as their mother was of the sea people.

When it comes to personality she is opinionated and stubborn. She is also loyal and kind-hearted. Dylanna is the practical one of the four sisters. She is the one who is used to being in control of herself, her emotions, and her destiny. She has no problem with the fact that her destiny seems to be the least "flashy" or "exciting" out of all her sisters, though there is greatness in her future she does not guess at.

She has somewhat resigned herself to being the pragmatic one, the "mother" to her three sisters in a way. At least, until she meets Brant, anyway. Dylanna is not really based on anyone in real life. She sort of evolved as I wrote the story. I did not intend for there to be a relationship between her and Brant (originally I had intended Rena for him), but as the story unfolded, my audience (who was reading along each night I would bring them ten new pages, remember) began to demand that Dylanna and Brant end up together. As per usual, their request turned out much better in the end that my original plan. :)

Here's a short snippet of how she is described the first time you meet her in King's Warrior:

Emerging from the barrier of illusion was a tall, trim young lady with long, flowing golden brown hair and brightly dancing brown eyes. She was dressed in traveling clothes, but somehow she managed to give off the impression that she was wearing a gown of the finest fabric, embossed with jewels and embroidered with thread spun from gold and silver. She was smiling, and there was a hint of laughter in her eyes.
