INTERVIEW WITH KY

I am so excited about all the lovely people participating in my online party! When you're done reading here, you should stop on over at Chelsea's Blog to read her interview with one of her villains - it's quite fun!I'll be answering a few interview questions over on DJ's blog sometime next week as well, so stay tuned for more information on that. My graphic artist (who is adding the title and other various important pieces to the painting) said he might get a rough draft of the cover to me by tonight, which means that I am just about jumping up and down with excitement over here. But, let's rein it in a bit, and have a chat with another one of the main characters featured in SECOND SON: Ky.This is sort of how I've always pictured Ky, though he's much younger in SECOND SON...

Good morning, Ky, thank you for agreeing to come over and talk to our readers for a few minutes.

Well, it was the least you could do.

Excuse me?

You know what I'm talking about.

Um... yes, about that. I am sorry.

Not as sorry as you should be.

Haha, erm, how about we actually ask an interview question, are you okay with that?

Depends on the question.

Okay. Well, let's start off simple. Tell us a little bit about yourself. Who are you and what are some of your goals and interests?

I am Ky, first born son of King Stiorne and Queen Fiora and rightful heir to the throne of Llycaelon. I am a warrior and dedicated to protecting my country from all who would attack or harm it or its people. I command the respect and loyalty of my teachers, as well as that of the men who are eventually placed under my command.

You have a younger brother, am I right? What is your relationship like?

Rhoyan and I were best friends when we were younger. We had so much fun terrorizing the palace staff, investigating the tunnels and caves in the cliffs around the castle, and training to become warriors.

That sounds lovely. So why do you have such a desire to kill him in King's Warrior?

Things... changed.

What things?

I don't want to talk about it. scowls.

Well then. You say you are a warrior. What is your best asset on the battlefield?

I excel in all the weapons. I can use a spear and a bow, but I am best with a sword in my hand.

What qualities are most important to you in a friend?

Loyalty.

How do you express yourself?

I am a prince. I am the confidante of the people. I must keep my own feelings and desires to myself.

That must be very tiring. Is there anyone you can confide in?

scowls and crosses arms I think that's enough questions.

No, wait, I have a few more. If you don't like that one, then how about a lighter one: can you describe your home and Llycaelon for us?

The castle of Llycaelon is made of black stones that were mined in the Northern Mountains. It sits atop the pale cliffs on the western end of the country. The spires stretch up to the sky as if to touch the stars themselves. The castle was a fun place to play when I was a boy, but even more fun were the caves and tunnels in the cliffs beneath it. The practice yard and stables are behind the castle and the ground slopes gently down to a forest. Llycaelon is a very heavily wooded land, forests cover most of our country. It is a beautiful land: wild, proud, and free. My people are a race of warriors, much like your ancient Spartans.

Yes, that is where I got the idea. Glad you approve.

Heartily.

What is your most prized possession?

I don't really get sentimental about things. I take excellent care of my weapons and my horses, though.

What is your greatest fear?

A warrior does not feel fear.

That's not very helpful.

But it's true.

I don't think it is. Remember, courage is not the absence of fear, courage is found in facing your fear.

So you say.

Brant answered this question.

Well, I'm not Brant. Which is something you've made abundantly clear. I know you like him better, everyone likes him better, and I won't be compared to him. If you're going to make this interview about him, then I'm done. Good day. stalks off.

Ky! Wait... no... that's not true! Don't leave... "Can't you understand I love you both!?" (oops, sorry, fell into a quote there, there are some leftover cookies that Ky didn't seem to want, they can go to anyone who is able to name which movie that quote is from!!)

*****

Well... that appears to be all we're going to get out of Ky today. I think he's more than a bit unhappy with me. He's really a great character, though. His is a rather tragic story... I love tragic figures, so Ky really is one of my favorites.

Remember these posts are part of my ongoing cover-reveal/book-release party this month. There are lots of ways you can get involved if you wish to participate (DETAILS HERE). If you have any further questions for Ky, you can leave them in the comments (though I can't guarantee he'll answer them, he is a bit more touchy than Brant).

Shouts from off-stage: I HEARD that!

Erm, yes, well... sorry. Tragic figures... you know how it is...

*****QUOTE HINT: You have to read the quote in an Australian accent. And it's from an older movie.
