Meet the Turrim Cast: Shaesta

Today I’d like to introduce you to Shaesta.

Another more minor—but highly important—character intro today!

Shaesta is a longtime friend of the Valdeun Hawk crew. She has worked many jobs with them over the past several years, and has gained both their friendship and their trust (though Oleck will still insist on following protocols before letting her sign up for any new job with them).

Shaesta is pretty much the opposite of Raisa in a lot of ways. Self-confident, light-hearted, always laughing, Shaesta is one of those people who appears to float through life in a twirling rush of jingling bracelets and colorful skirts. She loves bright and beautiful things, wears a lot of jewelry, and prefers a style of clothing that we might call more “bohemian” in nature. Her flowing, twirly skirts and colorfully embroidered blouses are definitely a stark contrast to Raisa’s more traditional “pirate” garb of knee-high boots, leggings, and tailed fitted jacket.

Despite being quite a bit younger than the main crew members I’ve already introduced you to, Shaesta’s personality makes her seem older. Raisa (despite being six years older) often envies a lot about Shaesta, wishing she had Shaesta’s confidence and charm. This does not prevent them from being good friends, however.

Shaesta often flirts rather shamelessly with Oleck, teasing him outrageously, but I’m fairly certain she just does it because it always gets a hilarious reaction out of him. There is an 11 year age gap between them, after all.

In spite of their long friendship and Shaesta’s rather chatterbox personality, the crew doesn’t know much about her past, as she’s never really talked about her family or where she’s from. They’re pretty sure she’s Pallan by birth/family… but they don’t know much other than that. That’s okay with Marik and co, though… not talking about their pasts or their families is kind of the glue that binds them all together.

Next week, I’ll be introducing the last character from this book: Mouse. I do have a couple of other character art sketches, but they are for characters whom you do not meet in book 1, so I’ll be holding those back for a bit.
