THE CAST OF SECOND SON

My blog posts for the next couple of weeks leading up to the cover reveal for Second Son (YAY!!!!) will be revolving around the book itself, as well as the artwork you'll be getting to see shortly (more exact dates coming soon). The book release will be coming right on the heels of the cover reveal, so it's definitely time to start getting excited!!!!

Maybe re-read King's Warrior... just so it's fresh in your mind.

Tell your friends that Second Son is coming soon!!!!

Shameless? Who... me?

Some of you have read the blurb about Second Son over on my Novels Page and therefore already know basically what Second Son is going to be about. But here's a little more explanation, as well as a brief overview of WHO Second Son is about.

The most important thing to know going in (especially if you've already read King's Warrior) is that Second Son is chronologically the FIRST book of the series. The events in this book take place before the events of King's Warrior - and follow Brant through his life from about age 5 until ten years before the start of King's Warrior.

Why not make that the first book in the series, then?

Well, because that's not the order I wrote them in. I wrote King's Warrior first. You can definitely read Second Son first, if you like, but I think it sort of ruins the surprise at the end of King's Warrior if you read them that way. I'm sure that someday people will argue over what order to read the books in, so I'm just going to tell you what I intended, and let you make your own decisions from there: I meant for them to be read in the order I wrote them, and the order in which I am publishing them. Feel free to deviate from that order in whatever way you like.

Second Son, like King's Warrior, stands on its own just fine. It is a complete story, with no "cliff-hanger" ending - but it also hints strongly at the fact that the story is not done (of course it isn't, Brant's journey continues in King's Warrior). :)

So if you're hoping for more of Kamarie's feisty behavior, or to find out how Oraeyn handles the responsibility he is handed at the end of Book 1... I'm sorry, you're going to have to wait until Book 3, where the story picks up about 3 years after the end of King's Warrior.

The second thing to be aware of, is that in Brant's country, children are given a name at birth, and then allowed to take a new name at their coming-of-age. So some of these characters will be familiar... but by different names.

Second Son is about Brant. First and foremost. It is the back-story he is so mysterious and guarded about throughout the entirety of King's Warrior. For the first half of the book, the character cast is almost completely new.

So who are the characters in Second Son?

In the first half of the book, the main characters are:

Rhoyan (young Brant)

Seamas (young Ky)

King Stiorne and Queen Fiora (Brant's parents)

Sheyardin (Brant's teacher)

Captain Delmar

Llewana

Calla

Dru

In the second half of the book you will see a few familiar faces:

Young Arnaud

Uncle Barr and Aunt Euphie (Arnaud's aunt and uncle)

King Jairem

Scelwhyn (wizard)

Calyssia

Dylanna

Leila

Zara

Imojean

Now that you know their names, which ones would you like to hear more about? I will be doing character posts and character interviews throughout January. So who would you like me to interview? And what would you like me to ask them?

If you would like to participate in the Cover Reveal/Book Release Party for SECOND SON, you can do so in a few ways:

1. If you are an author, interview one of your own characters and post it on your blog and then tell people you are participating in my cover reveal party and link back to my blog;

2. Or you can send me a list of interview questions for one of my characters (please let me know which one - it doesn't have to be one from just this list, it can be from anyone in King's Warrior, as well) and I'll send you the answers to post the interview on your blog.

3. Or, if you don't want to do either of those things, you could write a scene of dialogue in which you and one of your favorite characters from ANY book or movie get to hang out and chat (or argue, or go shopping, or whatever... be creative, I'd love to see what you come up with!!!)

4. I'm also hoping to have a "button" to share with you soon that you can post on your blog/facebook/twitter/pinterest, so be on the lookout for that!

You have until January 31st to participate!

Just make sure to leave a comment or send me an email with the link to your post so I can direct others to it, and kindly link back to my blog in your post!
